SPRING EQUINOX – LEANING TOWARD THE LIGHT

Each year, the seasons arrive on schedule. They do not arrive by force. They answer a rhythm remembered by the Earth. The March Equinox (often referred to as the Spring or Vernal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, or Autumnal Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere) occurs on March 20 this year, and marks a profound moment of balance, renewal, and connection to Nature’s cycles.
โ€‹
This time is understood not as an escape from winter, but as a continuation. Life that blooms in spring is shaped by everything that comes before: the cold that strengthens the roots, the darkness that teaches patience, and the stillness that preserves energy. Nothing is wasted.
โ€‹
In much the same way, we find ourselves at a collective threshold. Across the planet, many are carrying grief, fatigue, uncertainty, and a deep concern for the future. The instinct can be to brace, harden, or shut down โ€” to wait until things feel safer before allowing ourselves to fully live again.
โ€‹
But the Earth teaches a different way. Spring does not wait for certainty; it leans toward the light anyway.
โ€‹
Leaning toward the light does not mean denying the realities of the world we are living in. It does not mean bypassing pain, ignoring injustice, or pretending that everything is fine. Rather, it is a conscious, courageous choice to continue participating in life, to keep tending our relationships, creating beauty, telling stories, singing, praying, laughing, and loving.
โ€‹
From a shamanic perspective, this leaning is not passive. It is an act of responsibility. Life responds to life. When we allow ourselves moments of joy, creativity, and connection, we strengthen the web that holds us all. Our vitality becomes nourishment not only for ourselves, but for our families, our communities, our ancestors, and the generations to come.
โ€‹
While grief and despair are real part of our life experience, stagnation is not inevitable. Even in the harshest landscapes, life adapts. It grows sideways if it cannot grow upward. It rests when rest is required, and it blooms when the moment is right.
โ€‹
We, too, are part of this living intelligence. To lean into the light is to remember that our capacity for joy, tenderness, and presence is not frivolous, it is medicine. In difficult times, joy becomes a signal to others that life is still possible. That goodness still exists. That the future is not yet written.
โ€‹
As spring unfolds around us, we take our cues from nature. We allow ourselves to reorient to the beauty that is still around us, gently and without urgency. We trust that even small acts of care matter and may we remember that continuing to live with open hearts is a powerful form of service to the world.โ€

I read the beautiful message above about the Equinox from the โ€œShamanโ€™s Directory,โ€ and it inspired such hope, I knew I had to share it.
