How to Assimilate the Energies of Solstice

During solstice we stand in our own light, to absorb the season of becoming, to be still in it.

Perhaps you were busy and unable to fully bask in the energy of the Solstice. Thereโ€™s still time. Make a sun tea, journal and have a small ceremony to acknowledge and assimilate the energies.

Making a Sun Tea

Leave a glass jar of cold water and herbs in direct sunlight for 4 to 6 hours.

  • Elderflower โ€” light
  • Mint โ€” clarity
  • Chamomile โ€” warmth and steadiness
  • Lemon balm โ€” calm and gentle brightness
  • Rose petals โ€” softness and heart opening
  • Your favorite herbs!

Find these dried at most health food stores, co-ops, or online.

As you add each herb to the water, pause for a moment. Hold the jar. Set an intention that feels true for where you are right now. What are you stepping into? What are you ready to receive? Let the water absorb that energy as it steeps in the light. Sweeten with honey and drink while you write.

Journaling Prompts to Review Solstice Energy — Write your answers on a piece of paper.

  1. What has the first half of the year taught you about what you’re truly made of?
  2. The Sun stood at its fullest and now willingly begins to yield. Where in your life is something asking you to begin the graceful process of letting it evolve or letting it go?
  3. What part of yourself that you usually keep in shadow deserves to stand in the light?
  4. If you could send one message to yourself at last December’s winter solstice, what would you say?
  5. What are you most proud of that no one else would necessarily know about?

A Small Ritual to Celebrate You’ll need: a candle or small fire, ten unhurried minutes.

Step 1: Light your candle. Sit quietly. Feel the light.

Step 2: Say a prayer of gratitude to the Earth (example below or create your own).

Step 3: Read aloud what you journaled.
Step 4: Release. Burn the paper safely (outside in fireproof container) and breathe out long and slow.
Step 5: Place both hands on your heart. Say: I am ready to receive what is already mine.
Step 6: Sit in stillness. No phone. No agenda.

Example — Prayer for Solstice

โ€œIn a sacred way, I take but a moment of my life to honor the Earth, and all precious living beings within it.

I honor the grass, fields, woodlands, forests, stones, and mountains, all waters, streams, lakes, seas and oceans, the skies above, the clouds and winds, the sun, moon, and stars. All precious elements of life,  Earth, Air, Fire, Water, the animals, minerals, plants, and all others; giving thanks to all forms, all qualities of life. The Divine Space in the center of all, from which all springs, the beauty of All, and sacredness of all creation.

In a sacred way, I take this moment to honor and bring balance and harmony within me, in reverence, for all life. I receive your gifts with grace. I stand in the light. I open myself to the bounty, goodness, truth, wisdom, beauty, and grace of all Life.
